Palestinian analyst told Qodsna:

Egypt wants to be the main mediate in prisoner exchange deal

Professor of political science at Al-Azhar University in Gaza: In competition with Turkey and Qatar, Egypt wants to be the main mediator in the prisoner exchange deal between Palestinians and Zionist regime.

Gaza (Qodsna)- "I believe that the Zionist regime is maneuvering to buy more time on the issue of the exchange of prisoners”, Makhimar Abu Saada, a professor of political science at Al-Azhar University in Gaza, told Qodsna, adding “seven years passed since the beginning of the negotiations on the exchange of Palestinian prisoners with the Zionist regime and the regime has not taken any practical action”.

Explaining about the prolonging the prisoner exchange deal between Palestinians and Israelis, he added: "I believe that if the Zionist regime had access to information about these prisoners or their bodies, it would certainly have obtained information by several years after this incident. In fact, I believe that they are negotiating to obtain information about the status of their prisoners."

The main problem in this case is the dip differences between the Hamas and Israe’s preconditions in the case of the exchange of prisoners, he noted.

Hamas demands the release of all Palestinian prisoners, especially those sentenced to long prison terms, but the Zionist regime has set a red line for the release of such prisoners, including Marwan Barghouti, Ahmad Saadat, Hassan Salameh and Abdullah Barghouti, and has said that it will not allow to release them. In fact, the main issue that has prolonged the issue of the exchange of prisoners and failed to reach a conclusion is the sharp differences between Hamas and the Zionist regime.

Asked about Egypt's role in the developments in Gaza and the reconstruction of the region, which has been devastated by successive Zionist wars, he said: "Egypt's goal to be active in the Gaza reconstruction process is to establish itself as a key mediator in the negotiations between Hamas and Israel so that no one can take its place in this case, especially since we are witnessing fierce competition between Egypt, Qatar and Turkey on the issue of Palestine, especially on interfering in the affairs of Gaza.
