Ukraine developments could have
serious implications for regional issues

Dr. Sadollah Zarei
Tehran (Qodsna) - An expert meeting on the Ukraine crisis and its impact on the Middle East equations was held on Monday in Tehran with the attendance of Dr. Sadollah Zarei, director of the Noor Thinkers Research Institute.
Sadollah Zarei emphasized that the topic of the meeting “is a very important issue, especially from the point of view of what effect the Russian-Western crisis in Ukraine will have on the resistance front.”
“We need to study the relationship between our region and the West and Russia,” he added.
“We witness a kind of unity against the West because the West has generally had a negative attitude towards the region, the Islamic world and the axis of resistance. In fact, the West has not changed and follows the same colonial ideology of the past centuries. In fact, we do not see any difference in the way the West deals with this region. The same hostilities and animosities exist as before,” he said, referring to the general Western’s policy toward West Asia.
“But there are differences about Russia, although the Russians have negative points about the region and the Islamic world, but in general we have seen some differences in this issue,” the Iranian expert said.
“Another important aspect is that there is a general sense in the Islamic world that the West is their enemy, an issue which is not the case with Russia,” Zarei further explained.
He then talked about the Ukraine crisis, saying that “recent developments have also shown that the Islamic world, and in particular the axis of resistance has come to the conclusion that it must take an anti-Western stance. This position has been taken because the leaders of the resistance in the region have come to the conclusion that these developments can be considered as an important turning point that will have important effects on the region and the world in the future.”
On the other side, “the Zionist regime sided with the West, which is an issue that will bring many benefits to the resistance. It was in their interest for the Israelis to remain silent or to side with Russia in the face of developments in Ukraine.”
“Israel’s position in Ukraine's recent developments pushed Russia more towards joining the axis of resistance, which is a sign of the change that has taken place in the geopolitical atmosphere of the region in favor of the axis of resistance,” he stressed.
