Reasons behind US abstention for Gaza ceasefire resolution

The decision by the US to not use its veto on Resolution 2728 was influenced by factors such as popular pressure in Western countries against the ceasefire.

Tehran, Qodsna - Criticism of the US veto was heightened by violations of international humanitarian law and the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime’s forces in Gaza, as highlighted by international organizations and media reports. The failure to eliminate the Palestinian resistance and resolve internal tensions within the Zionist regime were also factors at play.

The influx of refugees and migrants from conflict-ridden regions, alongside the overshadowing of other global issues by the situation in Gaza, added to the complexity of the crisis.

Netanyahu's mismanagement of the offensive and contentious statements further exacerbated tensions within the regime and drew international criticism. The International Court of Justice's pressure on the Zionist regime and its allies impacted global perceptions and alliances.

UN Security Council Resolution 2728, calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, came too late due to various political factors that hindered an earlier agreement. While the Security Council had previously failed to agree on a resolution due to US vetoes, the latest resolution saw the US abstain, indicating a shift in stance.
