American professor in interview with Qodsna:

ICJ ruling to further isolate Israel internationally

An American university professor of Middle East History told Qodsna that the Zionist cause has permanently harmed in the US as a result of the regime’s onslaught in Gaza.

Tehran, Qodsna - Lawrence Davidson said in an exclusive interview with the Qods News Agency that the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will further internationally isolate the Zionist regime, and hopefully bring down this apartheid entity.

The interview comes as follows:

Qodsna: What is your take on the rifts among Zionist leaders on the Rafah operation?

Davidson: I think the differences are substantial enough to ultimately impact Israeli behavior in Gaza. The rightwing members of Netanyahu’s coalition are actually the ones completely dedicated to the Zionist ideology of an Israeli Jewish state from the Mediterranean to the Jordan river. Genocide in Gaza and pogroms in the West Bank followed logically and necessarily from their position. There is no end short of total ethnic cleansing, thus, for them, the war is open ended. Whatever his personal motivations, Netanyahu is most closely allied to this part of his coalition government. Then you have Defense Minister Gantz and the professional soldiers. In theory they too hold to the ultimate end dictated by Zionist ideology. But tactically, their military training does not allow them to approve of an endless war with endless Israeli casualties. That is why they want to know what the military, rather than ideological, end goal is. They want an exit plan. Popular opinion seems to be on Gantz’s side. Perhaps Netanyahu will make promises to Gantz to forestall his quitting the government. But in the end these differences are likely to defy resolution. Things will go on in this stalemated way as long as Netanyahu is in power.

Qodsna: What is your opinion on the negative impact of the Gaza war on US-Zionist ties?

Davidson: It is clear that President Biden is dedicated to the Zionist project. As such he sees Palestinian resistance, as he put it after Oct. 7, as “pure evil.” I don’t think he cares much about the slaughter in Gaza. However, like Gantz, Biden is disgusted with Netanyahu’s lack of tactical flexibility, not because of the genocide per se, but because it makes things politically more difficult for him here at home. Based on his actions, we can say that if he has to choose between his political career, winning the next election, or supporting the apartheid state of Israel—he will choose Israel. It is really irrational. Nonetheless, the Israeli cause has been permanently harmed here in the United States, particularly among young voters. Looking beyond the next four years, I don’t think we will see another pro-Israel president like Biden.

Qodsna: How do you think international pressures such as ICJ ruling can affect Gaza war?

Davidson: There is an old saying that goes, “you cannot reason someone out of a position he did not reason himself into in the first place.” In other words, the ICJ rulings, based as they are, on evidence and logic, will most likely have no impact on Israelis and other Zionists whose behavior is based on ideological fanaticism. Keep in mind that Israelis, over at least three generations, have been raised in a what I call a closed information environment that supports their Zionist worldview. So, the ICJ ruling will not change things in Gaza, but it will further internationally isolate Israel, and hopefully cause its future to be like the one that ultimately brought down apartheid South Africa.
