Gaza: All bakeries closed after running out of flour and fuel

All the remaining bakeries in the Gaza Strip stopped operating and serving bread on Monday after flour and fuel supplies ran out as a result of the ongoing closure of border crossing by the Israeli occupation army.

“All Gaza’s bakeries closed their doors today after flour and diesel supplies ran out. The World Food Program (WFP) informed us that its stores ran out of flour,” head of the Bakery Owners Association in Gaza Abdul-Nasser al-Ajrami said in a statement.

Ajrami added that 18 bakeries in the Gaza Strip receive support from WFP, warning that their closure could lead to severe famine in all areas of the besieged coastal enclave.

Ajrami affirmed that without the Israeli army reopening the crossing and allowing in flour and fuel supplies, Gaza’s bakeries would not be able to resume their operations.

He appealed to the international community to pressure the Israeli government to reopen the crossings with Gaza in order to avert looming famine.
