Ahmadinejad downplays Annapolis confab

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that organizers of the so-called peace conference in Annapolis in the American state of Maryland want to link Arabs to the Zionist regime.

"The conference will have no benefit for Palestine," President Ahmadinejad told Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moualem in Tehran on Tuesday.

Noting that the Zionist regime is part of the American body, Ahmadinejad said, "Enemies have long-term plans for regional nations, especially for the Lebanese and Palestinian nations. Solidarity and unity among regional Muslims, especially the stance tak en by Syria, will foil all the enemy's plots," he added.

Ahmadinejad said America and the Zionist regime are now on the verge of collapse.

The President warned against enemy plan to divide Iranian and Syrian nations and said, "In this case, we should act vigilantly and solve the regional problems through mutual assistance and consultation."

He said IRI is willing to promote ties and cooperation with Syria in many regional and international fields regarding their common stances.

He also said unity and solidarity among Syrian, Iranian and Lebanese nations is the only way for their victory in the region.

Moualem said in return that like their Iranian counterparts, Syrian officials support restoration of security, peace and stability in the region without foreign intervention.
