The Islamic renaissance that he inspired is still unfolding.\r\n\r\n\tI believe future historians will agree that Imam Khomeini's unique personality played a huge role in reversing the movement toward secularism that dominated the first three quarters of the 20th century.\r\n\r\n\tMore than any other 20th century Muslim, Imam Khomeini inspired Muslims to reject Western colonialism and return to their own heritage, while founding a viable model of modern Islamic governance.\r\n\r\n\t \r\n\r\n\tQodsna: How do you see the role of Imam Khomeini in the Palestinian issue and the struggle against Israel?\r\n\r\n\tBarrett: Imam Khomeini's staunch support for the Palestinians grew out of his support for the weak and oppressed, the mustazafeen. Inspired by the Qur'an, he loved justice and hated injustice and oppression.\r\n\r\n\tUnlike most national leaders of Muslim countries, he refused to compromise with the Zionists and their supporters in the West.\r\n\r\n\tHis courageous and unwavering supporting the Palestinian cause is a model for all actual and aspiring Muslim leaders.\r\n\r\n\t \r\n\r\n\tQodsna: What is your idea about the role of Israel in the formation, promotion and training of terrorist groups like ISIL in the region?\r\n\r\n\tBarrett: It seems that ISIL has been created, trained, and equipped by forces in the Israeli, US, Turkish, and Saudi governments. Though all of these governments bear some responsibility, Israel bears the most.\r\n\r\n\tThe regional destabilization program in which ISIS participates is basically an Israeli project; it is based on the Oded Yinon plan for the balkanization of the Middle East, and Netanyahu's "Clean Break" plan.
