The Security Council summoned an emergency meeting about Palestine upon the request of Britain, France, Sweden, Bolivia, Uruguay, Italy, Senegal and Egypt, on Friday.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
America's constant European allies Britain, France, Germany, Sweden and Italy issued a joint statement, denouncing Trump's decision as "unhelpful in terms of prospects for peace in the region."<\/p>\r\n\r\n
The European members stated: "We stand ready to contribute to all credible efforts to restart the peace process, on the basis of internationally agreed parameters, leading to a two-state solution,"<\/p>\r\n\r\n
"We encourage the US administration to now bring forward detailed proposals for an Israel-Palestinian settlement," the statement added.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
UN Middle East envoy Nickolay Mladenov warned the Security Council against the potential risk of violent escalation, saying, "There is a serious risk today that we may see a chain of unilateral actions, which can only push us further away from achieving our shared goal of peace."<\/p>\r\n\r\n
In response, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley accused the international organization of undermining Israel's interest.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
"Israel will never be, and should never be, bullied into an agreement by the United Nations, or by any union of countries that have proven their disregard for Israel's interest," Haley said.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour warned the emergency meeting attendis that Washington's new decision "undermines and essentially disqualifies its leadership role to seek peace in the region."<\/p>\r\n\r\n
He mentioned that the US cannot continue to monopolize the peace process as Washington is biased in favor of Israel's interest and urged the Security Council to denounce what he described as an "irresponsible US decision"<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Mansour called on the Security Council to reject any violation of its position that the status of Jerusalem al-Quds is unresolved and it should be negotiated based on the so-called two-state solution.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
The Palestinian envoy warned that the existing conflict can turn "into a never-ending religious war that will only be exploited by extremists, fueling more radicalism, violence and strife in the region and elsewhere."<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Palestinian leaders declared Friday as the “day of rage” against Israel and the US.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Clashes broke out between Israeli troops and Palestinian protesters after Friday prayers in Jerusalem al-Qud's Old City, Hebron (al-Khalil), Bethlehem and Nablus in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. At least two Palestinians were killed and about 770 others were injured during the tensions.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
