This was a profound act of solidarity to the people of the African continent and all oppressed peoples around the world. The African National Congress (ANC) government has continued to acknowledge the support they received from Iran. Today the partnership between the Republic of South Africa and the Islamic Republic is a continuation of the processes which were set in motion when Ayatollah Khomeini became leader of the Revolution more than 45 years ago. Imperialism has never recovered from their failure to retain Iran as a satellite of the West. The fact that Iran has continued on the path of internationalism and revolutionary solidarity with the oppressed is a strong testament to the strength of the entire development process. \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nQodsna: As you know Imam Khomeini predicted the collapse of Israel and the Palestinian people’s victory in retaking their homeland, with this said, what is the impact of Imam Khomeini’s Islamic Revolution of Iran on the Palestinian issue?\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAbayomi Azikiwe: Today the impact of the Revolution of 1979 is more apparent than ever. Apartheid was defeated in South Africa and in the present period we can envision a totally free and independent Palestine. This is the reason why Netanyahu does not want to end the siege on Gaza because he realizes how fragile the Zionist system is in the modern era. All they have are their false notions of "permanent war". However, after nearly eight months, the Palestinian resistance is still defending the people of Gaza. At the same time the international solidarity movement has grown exponentially. Obviously, Washington and Wall Street are coordinating repressive tactics around the U.S. in attempts to crush the movement. Over 3,000 students have been arrested. Others have been expelled from their colleges and universities, evicted from student housing and some have had their degrees withheld.
