Gaza officials offer amnesty to Israeli-backed gang members not involved in bloodshed

The territory’s ministry of interior and national security made the offer in a statement on Sunday, saying those had a week to surrender themselves “to regularize their status.”

The move, it added, was “based on the principles of justice and national responsibility,” and sought to “re-establish order and reinforce national and social cohesion” following the recent implementation of the first phase of a ceasefire plan hoped to end the genocide.

The ministry lamented that those gangs “exploited the chaos during the war to carry out unlawful acts that undermined civil peace, including assaults on citizens’ property and the looting of humanitarian aid.”

It was referring to such outfits like the gang linked to the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group that is run by Yasser Abu Shabab, who had spent time in prison in Gaza before rising to the gang’s headship.

Also on Sunday, Gaza’s security forces were reported to have neutralized a leading member of the gang, who used to recruit militants for it.

Palestinian officials have identified another such outfit as a gang affiliated with the Daghmash family that most recently assassinated Saleh al-Ja'frawi, a prominent Palestinian journalist and social media personality.

Besides pursuing high-profile assassinations, the gangs would resort to killing Palestinians gathering around the so-called aid distribution sites, which were backed by the United States and run by the Israeli regime.

Concluding its statement, the ministry warned that anyone who refused to surrender or persisted in violating the law “will face strict legal action by the competent authorities,” while asserting, “Consider this a final warning.”
