Hamas calls for urgent international relief to shelter displaced families

The Hamas Movement warned on Tuesday about the expected impact of a new weather front set to hit the Gaza Strip in the coming days.

The Movement emphasized that hundreds of thousands of displaced people face the risk of yet another humanitarian catastrophe due to the lack of adequate shelters and Zionist regime’s continued prevention of emergency supplies from entering the territory.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said, “The current tents are not suitable for withstanding rain or the winter cold,” noting that the harsh weather conditions coincide with Israeli-imposed restrictions on the entry of fuel and shelter materials, making it nearly impossible to prepare for the coming storm.

Qassem stressed that the worsening humanitarian situation requires the launch of an urgent international relief effort to provide proper, secure shelter centers that can offer displaced families at least minimal protection.

He also called for holding Israel accountable for violating the humanitarian relief protocols outlined in the January agreement and reaffirmed in the October deal.

The Hamas spokesman accused Zionist regime of continuing “genocide through various tools,” including its ongoing blockade, prevention of shelter supplies, restrictions on humanitarian aid, and closure of border crossings. He held the international community morally and politically responsible for the suffering of Gaza’s civilians.

The rainstorm “Byron” is expected to hit the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, bringing with it heavy rain, gale-force winds, flooding and suffering.

The Government Media Office has warned that the storm could cause a new humanitarian disaster for hundreds of thousands of displaced people who have been living in makeshift tents and shelters for over a year.
