Prisoner organizations: 9,300 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails face “colonial erasure”
The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said that Israeli authorities continue to systematically destroy the lives of over 9,300 Palestinian captives and detainees in its prisons through an integrated system rooted in torture and gross human rights violations.
In a joint briefing issued Thursday, both organizations emphasized that these violations have affected all prisoners without exception, through unprecedentedly entrenched policies and practices. They asserted that these actions form part of a broader campaign of genocide and ongoing “colonial erasure” targeting the Palestinian people.
The statement drew upon dozens of field visits conducted in December 2025, covering multiple prisons and detention centers including Ofer, Negev, Megiddo, Ramla clinic, Rakefet, Shata, Gilboa, and Ganot, as well as major detention camps such as Sde Teiman and Gilad.
The report revealed that 50 women detained in Damon Prison were subjected to systematic and brutal repression, including gas spraying, beatings, being shackled, and forced to sit in freezing cold conditions.
They have also been denied basic feminine hygiene supplies, including sanitary pads, and access to medical care, even those suffering from chronic illnesses such as cancer.
Conditions at Ganot Prison were described as particularly dire, where prominent prisoner leaders are held, including Ahmad Sa’adat, Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The briefing highlighted their continued exposure to torture, solitary confinement, and denial of medical treatment, resulting in severe injuries like broken ribs and intense back pain.
In Gilboa and Shata prisons, the report noted a sharp increase in violent crackdowns, including beatings with batons, and tear gas. In Negev Prison, a “starvation policy” was reported, with inmates receiving three extremely small meals a day, leading to extreme weight loss, frailty, and the spread of skin diseases like scabies, along with unknown viral infections, none of which are being properly treated.
More than 1,400 captives from Gaza are currently held in Zionist regime’s prisons, reportedly facing brutal torture and egregious violations of their human dignity. Approximately 350 child detainees are also incarcerated in tragic conditions, deprived of family visits and medical care, and subjected to beatings and malnutrition.
The Commission and the PPS concluded by affirming that Zionist regime’s policies are deliberately aimed at dehumanizing and degrading prisoners, through continuous and systematic acts of humiliation and abuse, carried out around the clock inside detention facilities.
