Iran Holds US Directly Responsible for Israeli Violations of Lebanon Ceasefire

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baqaei condemned Zionist regime's attacks against Lebanon, holding Washington the direct responsible of the continued violations of the ceasefire in the Middle Eastern country.

Baqaei on Thursday described the Zionist regime's attacks, which targeted residential units and key infrastructure in Lebanon, as “terrorist acts” which should be unequivocally denounced.Referring to the continued gross violations of the ceasefire accord, the diplomat called on the international community and the United Nations to hold Zionist regime accountable for its actions in occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon.

He also recalled the direct responsibility of the US government regarding the Tel Aviv regime's actions against Beirut.

Zionist regime's raids on Wednesday martyred five people in Southern Lebanon, including a journalist, further straining a fragile ceasefire.More than 2,400 people have been martyred in Lebanon since Zionist regime launched its offensive and subsequent invasion of Southern Lebanon.

Zionist regime has seized a belt of territory at the border where its soldiers remain. The latest strikes come on the eve of planned talks in Washington between Lebanese and Zionist regime's ambassadors as Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated Beirut would seek an extension of the 10-day, United States-mediated ceasefire, which is set to expire on Sunday.

The US-brokered ceasefire deal in Lebanon emerged separately from Washington’s efforts to resolve its conflict with Tehran, though Iran had called for Lebanon to be included in the agreement.

The Iranian spokesperson also condemned the killing of Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil, calling it a “brutal act” and part of a broader endeavour to silence the voices of truth-tellers.
