Gaza ministry warns of unprecedented humanitarian decline threatening two million Palestinians
Gaza’s Ministry of Social Development warned on Friday of an unprecedented humanitarian deterioration affecting two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, half of them children, saying more than 90% have been displaced into worn-out tents or amid destroyed rubble.
In a statement, the ministry said Gaza is home to large numbers of vulnerable groups, including more than 108,000 elderly people, around 47,000 widows and more than 120,000 people with disabilities.
It stated that the humanitarian system is under critical pressure, with tens of thousands of wounded people, cancer and kidney failure patients, and children suffering from acute malnutrition amid severe shortages of food and medical supplies.
Reports by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics show that nearly 1.9 million people, or around 90% of Gaza’s population, have been repeatedly forcibly displaced, while more than 65% of buildings and housing units in the territory have been damaged or completely destroyed.
UNICEF previously documented at least 17,000 to 19,000 children who are unaccompanied or separated from their families, while more than one million children in Gaza need urgent mental health and psychosocial support because of severe trauma and the conditions of war and siege.
OCHA reported in July that 67% of Gaza’s population is suffering from food insecurity, while 10% is nearing famine.
Zionist regime’s occupation forces have continued, for the 309th consecutive day, to violate the agreement ending the war and genocide in the Gaza Strip, which was signed on October 10, 2025, in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh under Arab and US mediation.
The Zionist regime’s violations come despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Friday, July 31, 2026, that a “new agreement” had been reached to begin the second phase of the roadmap.
